SISTER ACT: The Musical (Whoopi is at it again)

Well, Whoopi is at it again.  I say forget Oprah and Beyonce.  Whoopi Goldberg has proven to be one of the hardest working women in show business.  She has been in numerous films including The Color Purple, Ghost, Sister Act 1 & 2, and How Stella Got Her Groove Back.  This comedic superstar has written and produced shows such as Strong Medicine and science themed game show Head Games and is currently a co-host of the morning talk show The View.  And to top it all off, Whoopi Goldberg is one of 10 people on this earth who has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award.  Let me repeat that again.  Whoopi Goldberg is one of only 10 people who has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award.  And now she's teamed up with Stage Entertainment to create Sister Act: The Musical.  The synopsis is the same as the popular and hilariously funny 1992 movie.

Synopsis:  When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place cops are sure she won't be found - a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and an uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community, but in doing so blows her cover. Soon the gang are giving chase, only to find themselves up against Deloris and the power of her new found Sister Hood.

The show stars Patina Miller as Whoopi's original character, Deloris Van Cartier.  Miller and the rest of the cast have already received rave reviews for their performances.  The Laurence Olivier Award committee has nominated them for Best Actress in a Musical, Best Choreography, and Best New Musical.
That's the good news.  The bad news, at least for us Sister Act fans in the U.S., is right now the movie is currently playing overseas at the London Palladium.  It will be running all throughout 2010.  I haven't heard any news about this musical coming to the U.S.  However, I'm sure it will.  I guess the question is 'when'?  It's times like these I wish I had a little bit more money in my pocket.  I would have no problem taking a trip to London to check out what I know has to be a spectacular show.
